I have an Canon XL2 and GL2 which are both in standard def. I’m looking into getting an affordable HD Camcorder in the $2000 range. I was interested in the Canon XA10, Sony NEX-VG10, or Panasonic HMC-40. How would these small HD tapeless camcorders match up to the XL2? Would any HD camcorder, even a high-end consumer grade, be inherently better than the SD Prosumer cams? Or is it all about the optics? My main goal is shooting something in sometimes low light conditions that will look well when burned to DVD and watched on a hi-def TV. Blu-Rays may be in the future too.
