Camcorder Help please- what do you suggest?

{Video}

Several years ago my father got me a Sony Handycam for my birthday after me tedious on about one for nearly sixteen years. Someone finished up stealing it and I never bought myself another one. I like making small amusing films, documentaries…etc. It is a very passionate leisure activity of mine. The camera I had used small DVD like discs. I know nearly nothing about these kinds of things, and the camera I had was sweet simple to run. I can finally afford something in the up to $400 dollar range possibly. Preferably cheaper. I don’t need anything like, just something that captures video and is able to be edited. I do appreciate quality. Some reviews I read rant and rave about Canon, even as when I went to Circuit City a couple years ago the salesman despised Canon. I liked the Sony but many reviews give it a hardcore thumbs down. Any suggestions as to how I should go about researching this farther? What are your experiences with video cameras/camcorders? I don’t reckon this is quite the camera I had, but it LOOKS similar.

I only had the camera for a year before it was stolen. I’m not dead set on having the same one, or even one that uses the same recording contrivance. I liked how simple the small discs were since you could just pop them into the DVD player but I am very open to suggestions.

Experiences, advice, suggestions? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. icon smile Camcorder Help please what do you suggest?
Thank you for the flip responses. I considered those but I reckon I want to go with a larger something. I’m sure they would get the job done but I kind of delight in the way a traditional camcorder feels. A bit larger or smaller is fine, so I’ll keep the flip in mind.

Although you liked using the miniDVD’s, they are really not popular as they once were. In fact, I discourage people from considering them (not easy to edit, more steps and processes to rip video from disks later, etc.). Another camcorder media that you should consider is internal memory (flash) and/or use of memory cards. As you record video, your clips are saved as a video file. Each time you start and stop recording, another file is created. Using a video edit program will allow you to import each video file (clip) and thus you can edit, add titling, add music, transitions, etc. Editing allows you to be creative and to really make your movies appeasing. If your video is recorded to a memory card, all you need is a simple card reader to access (copy) the video files to your computer. If you use a more featured video editing program (not a free one or cheap one), the whole process is pretty easy to do and you’ll be much happier than dealing with miniDVD’s.
One camcorder I found that comes close to your budget, and records video to memory cards, is the Sony HDR-CX110 HD Handycam.

Aunsoft Final Mate, a great and useful camcorder assistant software, has everything needed to directly capture/backup AVCHD (*.mts, *.m2ts), AVCHD Lite, AVCCAM, NXCAM, TOD, MOD recordings from Hard Disk Drive/SD Card Camcorders to PC, to import, edit and create spectacular movies on a timeline. It is also powerful enough to play/convert native 1080 60p/50p footages and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.

Powerful timeline-oriented editing features like split/trim video, splice clips, crop, do color correction, deinterlacing, replace audio, adjust volume, etc help you create satisfied film results. Merge/combine avchd (*.mts, *.m2ts), AVCHD Lite, TOD into only one file without any re-encoding or recompression.

Export/convert edited camcorder video to other editors (Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, WMM, Pinnacle Studio, etc), media devices (iPad, iPhone4, droid x, nokia n8, galaxy s, hdtv, projector, etc), or common formats (mov, avi, wmv, mp4, mpg, mpeg-2, etc) with the high quality and least amount of clicks. Ultra extreme performance with support for NVIDIA® CUDATM while encoding.
