There is a HD Canon camera the HV10 that is $700 (retails for more) since this is HD is it’s picture quality better than the SD Canon XL2 which retails for $5,000?

I don’t think so, but Canon’s new HV20 offers 24p recording, which is a very important feature. I don’t know about the manual controls, but it seems that 24p at such a low price and HD as well, is a very good deal even if you don’t have a ton of manual features. That said, Canon also has an HDV camera, the XH-A1 for about the same price as an XL2. It doesn’t have interchangeable lenses, but I’ve heard good things about it. But then again, I don’t know anything about those two cameras except for what I told you, so don’t take my word for it. Anyways, hope this helped somewhat.
NOOOOO! Get the point? Just kidding. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The XL2 has many features that professionals (like me) require and want. For example a consumer wouldn’t care but the XL2 has 4 separately controlled audio channels, 2 xlr (professional mic) ports and fully adjustable video settings. The XL2 also shoots naively in 16:9 so the difference between SD ( DVD quality) and HD ( HD DVD/ Blueray) are less noticeable. Also the XL2 unlike consumer cameras features 3ccd’s this means that the colors are more accurately reproduced and the image looks sharper and nicer. TV stations use the same technology. The XL2 video is still going to look on the whole more professional and nicer than a consumer $700 HD camera. Oh, and the XL2 is only $3,500.
